Why you need it?

Cardio – you may love it or hate it. But what is indisputable is if you’re setting up a commercial gym space, you need to have cardio equipment on hand.

We at Iron Edge have long held off on stocking any cardio equipment, not wanting to compromise on quality and providing good value. It’s with great excitement that we’ve partnered with Xebex as their exclusive Australian distributor.

Renowned for their high-quality and robust equipment and sharing our high performance and serious training methodology, there are many synergies between the businesses.

If you’re comparing options and need to ensure you’re getting the best possible fit for your space, we’ve got you covered.

Rowing Machine Shop Now

The Xebex Air Rowing Machine 2.0 features a clear and detailed display that will automatically track time rowed, distance, heart rate, calories and more. Several pre-built programs can be used or you can just get in and row – handy for group classes and circuits. Highly durable, the Rowing Machine 2.0 has been tested for over 1 million strokes with a robotic arm without failing – this piece will last you a long time (and has a 5 year warranty on the frame).

The CompetitionThe standard for rowing machines has long been the Concept 2, a title we are gunning for. The main differences between the Xebex Air Rowing Machine 2.0 and the Concept 2 Model D include:

ComfortThe differences in comfort are fairly minor, but the Xebex is designed with commercial / recreational gym users more in mind whereas the Concept 2 is closer to simulating rowing as accurately as possible. The Xebex’s seat and handle includes more padding, the Concept 2 is a bit more stiff. The Xebex is also set 20” off the ground as opposed to 14”, ideal for anyone with joint issues or who may have issues getting up and down. It’s also just more comfortable to get in and out of for anyone in general.

Tracking dataAs the Concept 2 has been the go-to rower used in Crossfit and commercial spaces for years past, if you’re looking at comparing data between machines you may want to stick with the same machine to ensure no variability. That being said, the differences in formulas used to calculate data has been adjusted over the years to ensure it is as comparable as possible, so any differences would be quite minor.

Storage / MobilityThe Xebex is designed to be folded up and wheeled around, whilst the Concept 2 can be stood up but to move around it is meant to be separated into separate pieces. Moving upstairs or in/out of a car would definitely be easier with the Concept 2, moving around across the floor is easier with the Xebex.

Treadmills Shop Now

The problem with older / cheaper Treadmills is it doesn’t feel at all like running – you’re putting one foot in front of the other in time with a fan belt as opposed to pushing off with your foot and generating momentum. It’s also difficult to change speeds quickly, whether it’s accommodating intervals or adjusting your pace for a quick burst or needing to slow down.

Using a curved, motorless Treadmill is a game changer. The feel is completely different and much more closely simulates actual running, whilst allowing sudden changes of pace.

The curvature of the treadmill allows for the speed to be changed intuitively, stepping higher on the curve will result in the foot being propelled quicker down and the speed being increased. To slow down, simply back slightly off and run only using the flat component. Simple!

What model to use? When comparing between models, the main features to bear in mind are the curve, if you want the option of changing the resistance or using a motor.

CurveThe Xebex Treadmill and Xebex Resistance Treadmill feature a curved design whereas the Motorised Slat Treadmill is a more standard flat design. The curve allows for your speed to be adjusted on the fly by adjusting your position on the belt.

ResistanceChanging the resistance using the Resistance Treadmill model allows the additional option of simulating sled pushes and developing hamstring and glute strength in a manner highly specific and transferable to running when using a moderate setting.

MotorisedUsing a motorless, curved design feels completely different from a standard treadmill, as it more closely replicates real running. This isn’t for everyone, and if you (or your clients) would prefer the option of maintaining a set speed the Motorised Slat Treadmill features a motor that can be turned on or off.

Bikes Shop Now

A staple among commercial and home gyms everywhere, bikes can fit anyone’s program from conditioning to rehab to recovery and all in between.

Handy features to keep in mind when comparing to the competition include a big clear screen for easy reading, large wheels on the base to allow the bike to be tipped at different angles to aid transport and most importantly, premium performance; the Xebex Air Bike and Spin Bike are excellent additions to any home gym or commercial space.

With a heavy duty base, the Air Bike weighs in at 104lb / 47kg, and the Spin Bike at 127lb / 57kg ensuring the Bike is steady at max speed, allowing you to go all out with confidence – essential for athletes and serious trainers.

The seat can be adjusted vertically and horizontally, ensuring a suitable fit for all users, from T-Rex armed powerlifters to gangly basketballers and anything in between.

When choosing between the Air Bike Plus or the Spin Bike, the main difference is in the handles. The Air Bike features fairly high handles, allowing a more upright posture to be maintained, whereas the Spin Bike’s handles are lower and promote a leaning posture while sitting.

Ski Trainer Shop Now

Designed to replicate cross country skiing, few cardio machines will cover as much of the body as the Ski Trainer - hitting the upper and lower body and core to varying extents depending on your technique and focus.

Benefits of using the Ski Trainer or adding this to your space include the low impact nature, easy access in and out making it a good fit for circuits and groups, and novel nature compared to a treadmill or bike (most gymgoers aren’t regular skiers).

Given the vertical nature of the Ski Trainer, the footprint is minimal (especially if wall mounting) and if free standing is easy to move around.
